1. Dallas Cowboys
Franchise value: $6.50 billion
Total championships: 5
The Cowboys’ status as the nation’s most valuable NFL — and pro sports — franchise for 15 straight years largely can be traced to its owner, the business-savvy Jerry Jones. Jones reinvented the modern sponsorship model after buying the team for a mere $150 million in 1989. He quickly secured lucrative deals with Pepsi, Nike and other major corporations — a formula that was parroted by the rest of the league’s owners. Even in a year that included a global pandemic, the Cowboys’ value increased by 14%.

2. New York Yankees
Franchise value: $5.25 billion
Total championships: 27
Babe Ruth. Joe DiMaggio. Lou Gehrig. Derek Jeter. Arguably the most iconic team in all of sports, the New York Yankees boast a retired numbers list that reads like a Hall of Fame all-star roster. Although the vaunted history of the Bronx Bombers — and its unprecedented 27 championships — spans generations, one family name has dominated the pinstripes throughout the entire modern era: Steinbrenner. Patriarch George Steinbrenner bought the team for $10 million in 1973, and the team has remained in the family’s control since his death in 2010.

Total championships:6
The New England Patriots are the most dominant NFL dynasty of this generation — and perhaps ever. 5. New York Giants
Franchise value: $4.85 billion
Total championships: 4
The Giants have gone 10 years since the most recent Super Bowl win, and in that span, they qualified for the postseason just once. This season, second-year coach Joe Judge and young quarterback Daniel Jones undoubtedly have the playoffs on their minds.
6. Los Angeles Rams
Franchise value: $4.80 billion
Total championships: 3
In 2016, the Rams ended a more than two-decade-long football drought in Los Angeles, the second-largest media market in the country. The inaugural season was a flop on the field, but today, the team is among the 10 most valuable franchises across all major sports. This year, fans will be able to watch the team in person in the new $5 billion SoFi Stadium, which was closed to spectators last year because of the pandemic.
7. Golden State Warriors
Franchise value: $4.70 billion
Total championships: 6
While it boasts a strong market and good gate receipts, the secret to the success of pro sports’ No. 7 most valuable team is simple — winning. The Warriors brought a trophy home in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Their ratings skyrocketed, as did the cost they charged for naming rights to their new arena in San Francisco, Chase Center.
8. Los Angeles Lakers
Franchise value: $4.60 billion
Total championships: 17
LeBron James led the Lakers to the NBA title in 2020, their first since 2010. It ended a period of futility for the perennial power, which had six straight losing seasons and boosted a franchise still mourning the death of legend Kobe Bryant.
9. Washington Football Team
Franchise value: $4.20 billion
Total championships: 5
The Washington Football Team shed its longtime, controversial nickname in 2020, and the franchise expects to christen a new name before the 2022 season. Think of all the new merchandise that will be sold.

He signed a five-year, $137.5 million contract extension in February 2018 that will keep him under contract with San Francisco through the 2022 season.
11. Chicago Bears
Franchise value: $4.08 billion
Total championships: 9
The storied history of the Chicago Bears dates back to 1920, when the Staley Starch Company sponsored a pro team based in Illinois. The following year, they gave the team to George Halas along with $5,000, provided he’d call the team the Staleys for another. In 1922, he named the team the Chicago Bears, and he and his heirs have controlled the franchise since.
12. New York Jets
Franchise value: $4.05 billion
Total championships: 1
It’s been a more than 50 years since “Broadway” Joe Namath led the Jets to victory in Super Bowl III in 1968. That remains their only Super Bowl appearance in team history. Jets fans are hoping new coach Robert Saleh and quarterback Zach Wilson, the No. 2 selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, can lead them back to the big game.
13. Philadelphia Eagles
Franchise value: $3.80 billion
Total championships: 4
The Philadelphia Eagles beat Tom Brady and the Patriots in Super Bowl LII in 2018 for their first Super Bowl and fourth NFL championship. Not much is expected of them for the 2021 season, with one bookmaker listing the Eagles with +10000 odds to win the Super Bowl. A real longshot, in other words.
14. Denver Broncos
Franchise value: $3.75 billion
Total championships: 3
The Broncos charge a lot for tickets, but the loyal Denver fan base continues to pay big bucks to see the team play. It is, after all, one of the country’s top football markets. 16. Los Angeles Dodgers
Franchise value: $3.57 billion
Total championships: 7
Just one team in baseball is more valuable than the Los Angeles Dodgers — and that, of course, is the Yankees. The Dodgers stay flush, in part, thanks to the team’s enviably giant market. It also helps that they’re good. The Dodgers won the World Series in 2020 in their eighth straight season of winning the National League West title.
17. Seattle Seahawks
Franchise value: $3.50 billion
Total championships: 1
The Pete Carroll era, which began in 2010, has positioned the Seahawks as one of the most consistent teams in football. They’ve made nine playoff appearances during his tenure, which include two Super Bowls. They beat the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII.
18. Green Bay Packers
Franchise value: $3.48 billion
Total championships: 13
In the world of corporate sports ownership, the Green Bay Packers — and their beloved Lambeau Field — stand alone. The team has about 361,300 owners: the fans who cheer it on. Publicly owned for nearly a century, the team uses sales of shares to improve the stadium. No dividends are paid.
19. Boston Red Sox
Franchise value: $3.47 billion

20. Pittsburgh Steelers
Franchise value: $3.43 billion
Total championships: 6
Since their founding in 1933, the Steelers have been owned by the Rooney family, but that level of continuity and consistency is not limited to the team’s ownership. The Steelers have had just three head coaches — Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin — since 1969.

21. Miami Dolphins
Franchise value: $3.42 billion
Total championships: 2

22. Las Vegas Raiders
Franchise value: $3.42billion
Total championships: 3
In 1966, Al Davis, father of current owner Mark Davis, shelled out $180,000 to buy the Raiders. Just 55 years later, the team is worth more than $3.4 billion. Although the storied team has made the playoffs just once since losing the Super Bowl in 2002, Raider Nation is optimistic as the franchise begins to play its second season in a state-of-art stadium in Las Vegas. Per Statista, the Raiders’ ticket prices are the most expensive in the NFL, averaging more than $153 each.

24. Chicago Cubs
Franchise value: $3.36 billion
Total championships: 3
The Cubs have three championships to their name — but two of them came when Theodore Roosevelt was president. The Cubs’ historic and all-around depressing championship drought, which started after the team won the 1908 World Series, ended 108 years later in 2016. That’s when they beat the Cleveland Indians in a 10-inning Game 7 to win the World Series.
25. Minnesota Vikings
Franchise value: $3.35 billion
Total championships: 0
The Vikings moved into the $1.13 billion U.S. Bank Stadium in August 2016. The 66,200-seat stadium has a translucent plastic roof that lets fans feel as if they are sitting in an outdoor stadium. But, in reality, it’s an indoor venue that keeps fans warm and toasty in frigid Minneapolis.

Total championships: 4
The Indianapolis Colts have been a team driven by star power. Longtime quarterback and marketing powerhouse Peyton Manning helmed the team for a generation. When he left, the team turned the reins over to budding superstar Andrew Luck, who went on to sign a record-breaking contract. Luck retired abruptly before the 2019 season, and the Colts hope they have found a new star in Carson Wentz, who will quarterback the team in 2021.
28. Boston Celtics
Franchise value: $3.20 billion
Total championships: 17

Franchise value: $2.94 billion
Total championships: 2

33. Los Angeles Chargers
Franchise value: $2.92 billion
Total championships: 1
The Chargers will have their first real chance to win over fans in the Los Angeles area in 2021 since moving from San Diego before the 2021 season. 34. Carolina Panthers
Franchise value: $2.91 billion
Total championships: 0
The Panthers moved into their brand-new stadium in 1996, and even though Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, is just 25 years old, that makes it a senior citizen by today’s NFL standards. Team owner David Tepper is seeking a new retractable-roof stadium paid for through a public-private partnership.
35. New Orleans Saints

37. Los Angeles Clippers

ESPN reported that the Nets are prepared to spend about $296 million in the 2021-22 season in payroll and luxury taxes, which would be the second most ever in NBA history.

Franchise value: $2.63 billion
Total championships: 2
Bud Adams, a Texas oilman, jumped at the chance to buy a franchise in the fledgling American Football League for $25,000 before the league started in 1960. 41. Cleveland Browns
Franchise value: $2.60 billion

42. Houston Rockets
Franchise value: $2.50 billion
Total championships: 2
Early in the 2020-21 season, the Rockets traded superstars James Harden and Russell Westbrook. It was welcome news for both players, who wanted out of Houston, and also for owner Tilman Fertitta, who was determined to shed payroll. Harden was in the third year of a four-year, $171.3 million deal. Westbrook was playing in the third season of a five-year, $206.8 million contract. Without their key cogs, the Rockets finished the season 17-55 and missed the playoffs for the first time in eight years.

45. Detroit Lions
Franchise value: $2.40 billion
Total championships: 4
The Lions were one of the early NFL franchises and have been in Detroit since 1934. They once were an NFL power, winning their four league championships before the Super Bowl era — the most recent in 1957. They modern-day Lions haven’t advanced past the wild-card round of the playoffs since 1991, however, and are one of just four NFL teams never to have appeared in the Super Bowl.
46. Cincinnati Bengals
Franchise value: $2.28 billion
Total championships: 0
The Bengals’ record in the playoffs is akin to that of the Lions. They haven’t won a playoff game since 1990, but they have appeared in two Super Bowls. The franchise and fans are banking on quarterback Joe Burrow, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, to lead a reversal of fortune.
47. Buffalo Bills
Franchise value: $2.27 billion
Total championships: 0
The Bills play in one of the two smallest NFL markets — Green Bay is the other — but enjoy a rabid fan base. The team plays in an outdated stadium built in 1973, and the franchise has proposed to build a $1.4 billion stadium that would have 60,000 seats and 60 suites — much of it paid for with public funds.

While the Raptors are based in Canada, they’re included on the list since they are part of the U.S.-based NBA. They spent the 2020-21 season south of the border, playing in Tampa, Florida, because of coronavirus-related travel restrictions between the two countries.
50. Philadelphia 76ers
Franchise value: $2.08 billion
Total championships: 3
The 76ers have put together a consistent playoff team in recent years, but they are trying to get over the hump and into the NBA Finals after losing in the Eastern Conference semifinals in three of the past four seasons. They are seeking their first NBA championship since 1983.
